Saving large files without a DVD Burner

Wayneman asked us "on my c drive i have some movies that i want to keep but i what to reformat that drive and i dont have another drive i can move the movies to...i was thinking is (there) a way i can format the drive while saving the movies?"

His particular movie is 4GB, since it is 4GB uploading it to another computer is almost out of the question, it would take insanely too long unless you had two computers with Gigabit NIC cards connected to your personal network.  Of course, if you have the money for a DVD burner, we recommend buying one.  They are a great way to back up files, up to 4.7GB currently.

If you do not have a DVD burner, you can "split" the file into multiple 700MB files and burn those files each to it's own CD, then copy them back over to your hard drive after you format and rejoin the files.  Sound complicated?  Not really, check out this web site and download HJSplit.  http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/ HJSplit 2.2 is the latest version they have for Windows, they even have a manual for you to download and learn how to use it.  http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/manual/
